October 22-26 Red Ribbon Week

This week is Red Ribbon week. Monday wear red. Tuesday wear your favorite team jersey. Wednesday wear dress code pajamas. Thursday wear crazy socks. Friday wear Roughneck spirit colors. In math we will be finishing converting measurements. In language arts we will have a spelling test on Wednesday and work with prepositions.

October 15-19

You have made it through the first 9 weeks of 5th grade! To celebrate, there will be a student holiday on Friday, October 19 so enjoy your day off. In math we will work on converting measurements. October 8-12

This week in math we will be learning about volume. We will be making Monster Theaters to explore the ideas of perimeter, area, and volume. In language arts we will have a spelling test on Wednesday and write a spooky Halloween story. Remember to bring a pep rally note on Friday if you are planning to attend.

October 1-5

It’s White Oak Homecoming week! Because of this we will release at 1:15 on Friday so that students can attend the pep rally. In math we are reviewing some concepts and having our first Common Assessment on Thursday. In language arts, we are writing a letter to our future selves that I will deliver to you in 10th grade. September 24-28

This week in math we will be learning more about order of operations. In language arts, we will have our spelling test on Thursday and talk about abbreviations and capitalization. Wednesday is an early release day and we have a fun Social Studies activity planned for that day.

September 17-21

In math we will be learning about Order of Operations. We have a special reward in store for those students who show their work. Wonder what it could be? In language arts we will be looking at simple sentences and compound sentences. Our spelling list for September 27 is listed below. September 26 is a half day so we will move the test to Thursday.

September 10-14

This week in math we will be learning about prime and composite numbers. This is a brand new idea so try to be here every day. In language arts, we will have our spelling test on Wednesday and then talk about adjectives. Our parent orientation is Monday, September 10, at 5:30. Please make every effort to attend because we will try to answer any questions about 5th grade and how we do things. We look forward to seeing you there!

August 27-31

This week in math we will be looking at the different ways a number can be written. In language arts, we will have our first spelling test on Wednesday, August 29 and then learn about collective nouns. The first pep rally is Friday. Make sure you bring a note if you are checking out early for it. We are super proud of all of our 5th graders effort and attitude. We are off to a great start!

August 20-24

Here we go – our first full week of 5th grade! This week in math we will be working on place value – tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. In language arts we will talk about irregular verbs. Don’t forget to bring your sentimental object this week so we can learn more about each other. It’s going to be a great year!
