May 20-22

I can’t believe we have made it to the end of 5th grade. Your students have learned and grown so much and we can’t wait to see how well they do in middle school. A few things to be aware of:

May 17 – Field trip to Gforce. We are leaving at 8:00. Please bring a sack lunch and drink that can be thrown away. You may check your student out from Gforce or Kidsview. We will leave Kidsview around 2:00 to return to school.

May 20- 5th grade Olympics and middle school visit. We are encouraging students to wear their class’ colors for Olympics. We will be interspersing Olympics with our visit and other activities so this is a closed event without parents.

May 21- Early release

May 22 – 5th grade awards 8:30 and early release.

May 13-17

Our last full week is certainly a busy one. There will be STAAR testing Monday-Wednesday on our campus so we ask that you do not come eat lunch with your student those days. Monday will be the math retest, Tuesday is the reading retest, and Wednesday all 5th graders will be taking the science STAAR. Friday we will be heading to GForce and Kidsview for our field trip. Please make sure you have in permission slips and money. This year has certainly flown by!

May 6-10

Permission slips will be going home Monday for our field trip to GForce, May 20. Please return the slip signed with $8 by Friday, May 10. We will have a spelling test Wednesday, May 8. The science STAAR is Wednesday, May 15. We have lots of important dates coming up as we head into middle school!

April 29-May 3

Next week we will be focusing on science to prepare for the science STAAR. Math and reading STAAR scores should be in by April 29 and students will be notified. If a student did not pass we will have remediation for the next 2 weeks. The spelling list for May 8 is listed below.

You are welcome to take your student home but it will need to be AFTER all the events are finished. Thank you for waiting until then to check them out. Thursday is Kona Ice Day. If your child would like to purchase a snow cone, they will be able to do that during enhancements.

April 15-19

We survived the first round of STAAR testing! The students worked hard and now we wait for results. We should have these back in a couple of weeks. We will shift our main focus now to science and will work on that in several classes. The spelling list for our April 24 spelling test is listed below. April 18 is our Easter party from 9-10. Please make sure you have read the note we sent home regarding the party. It has lots of good information on what the students will need to bring in order to fully participate at the party. April 19 and 22 are school holidays. April 26 is our field day. We are definitely in the home stretch!

April 8-12

This is STAAR week. Math will be Tuesday, April 9 and reading will be Wednesday, April 10. Please make sure your student is at school and that they have eaten a good breakfast and gotten a good night’s sleep. One day and one test does not define them. They have worked hard to prepare and all we ask is that they do their best. We cannot have visitors those days and no outside lunches.

We will be having a spelling test on Thursday as well.

April 1-5

This week we are continuing to review all the math concepts we have learned in 5th grade. In language arts we are practicing proofreading. Our next spelling test is April 11. The words are listed below. STAAR math is April 9 and STAAR reading is April 10.
